The head adornments used in Bharatanatyam have a beautiful array. These two brooches called Surya birai and Chandra birai depicting the sun and the moon, which is placed on either side of the head. They represent Lord Nataraja wearing the moon and stars as jewellery as told in the Dhyana Slokam.
