
Kuchipudi: The brass - plated poetry of Andhra Pradesh's divine heritage.
Andhra Pradesh is known for its resplendent and adorning ethnic splendor encompassing an enchanting mystical paragon of performing arts like dance,music and drama. Kuchipudi is one of the best and widely performed artforms of the world,originated in this ethnologically prolific land . Let’s dive deep into the nuances of this exquisite art form. The maiden representation of this multifarious artform was rendered in the village of Kuchipudi of Krishna district.Thus kuchipudi has been acceptably named after the place of the maiden presentation.
As per the copper inscriptions of 10th century and the textual testimony from 15th century (Manchupalli Kaifat) this art form is said to have embedded it’s presence in the antidiluvian era prior to, Narahari Tritha, a sanyasi of the dvaitha Vedanta order and his orphan disciple siddhendra Yog,who is considered as the father of Kuchipudi,i intiated the conscientious version of medieval Kuchipudi in the 17th century.Procuring inspiration from vaishnavism, medieval Kuchipudi blossomed into Krishna augmented narrative which is otherwise known as Bhagavat Mela in Thanjavur.It was customarily performed by the Brahmins in ancient India. In accordance with the recordings of 10th century copper inscriptions the performers were known as Bhrahmana melamulu or brahma melamulu. Kuchipudi originally was a musical tradition with deep inclination to vaishnavism .
Kuchipudi is performed by keeping the feet on the edges of a brass plate and placing a heavy pot filled with water on head featuring perfect balancing of performance with facial expressions, hand movements and neck movements.
The customary musical instruments used in Kuchipudi are mridangam, cymbals, veena, flute and tambura. The other core tenets of kuchipudi comprise of Abinaya, Tala and laya, nattuvangam, bhakti and Rasa costume and make up. There are 28 single hand mudras in Kuchipudi which are also known as Asamyukta hasta mudras.
In 1958 with the establishment of kuchipudi Art Academy kuchipudi emerged into one of the major art forms of India capturing world wide attention,adulation and admiration.Kuchipudi utilizes an original or a novel form of accompanying vocal rendition which makes it distinct from other classical forms . Kuchipudi is the most arduous adaptation of classical dance form of India. Pupils should muster immense patience, dedication ,diligence and perseverance to learn this indigenous art. Kuchipudi holds a multi healing capacity for alleviating and annihilating psychological distress and musculoskeletal problems as recorded by AMSA Journal of Global Health on 1st June 2020.
